Daisy is 8 years old. She turns to look at her lesson on the blackboard. Then she turns back to the table where she copies answers down on her notepaper.
Daisy's mom, Melanie, sits outside the school hut, cooking lunch with the other mothers over an open fire pit. “I want a better life for my children,” she says. Daisy is one of only a few children who are sponsored in the Lumbangan community in the Philippines.
Through CFCA sponsorship, the cheerful 8-year-old is able to go to school during the week, while most of her friends turn their young, eager energy toward the family business – scavenging at the Lumbangan dump site where they and their parents find and sell recyclable items.
