“Through sponsorship, the aging see that someone recognizes their existence and their worth.”
Bob Hentzen,
CFCA President
Since 1984, CFCA has been the only major sponsorship program to offer sponsorships of aging persons. Including the aging in our sponsorship program comes from CFCA’s core belief in the dignity and value of every person. CFCA serves more than 19,000 aging women and men around the world through more than 380 programs.
Often, aging persons in developing countries have no one to depend on for their survival. They receive no social security and may not be able to count on family members for support because adult children are occupied with their own survival. Consequently, the elderly in these situations find themselves working well into old age.
CFCA sponsorship energizes and reinvigorates aging persons. Medical care and nutritious food treat physical ailments. Recreation and socialization programs nourish their spiritual and emotional health. Community-building programs provide opportunities for aging members to participate in folk dancing, singing, retreats or field trips and physical fitness. They can also learn income-generating skills such as needlework and horticulture.
The vast majority of CFCA sponsored aging members are age 65 and older. However, some are in their 40s and 50s, and several with disabilities are under 40. CFCA serves more than 40 centenarians.
Sponsoring an aging person is a chance to make a profound difference in someone's life.
