BEYOND SPONSORSHIP
Your sponsorship provides to a child or elderly friend overseas life-enhancing benefits such as medical services and nutritious food, education and development of talents, and—especially—letting them know someone cares.
However, from time to time, sponsors may wish to make contributions over and above their monthly sponsorship for special occasions such as birthdays or Christmas or for special needs.
CFCA sends 100 percent of these donations to our projects overseas.
CFCA relies on our overseas project staff to make assessments on the use of additional contributions for the families most in need at your friend’s project. This ensures funds are used in the best interest of the sponsored child, aging person or family consistent with CFCA's goals.
GIFT FUNDS

Birthday Fund
For many sponsored children, a party hosted by CFCA may be their first birthday celebration—a special and cherished day. The Birthday Fund provides all CFCA children and aging friends with a celebration and gift, or additional benefits, selected by the project staff to be culturally appropriate.
Christmas Fund
In celebration of the joyous Christmas season, every child and aging person participates in celebrations that respect the religion and culture of the region, and often include the families of sponsored friends. Gifts (practical or fun) or additional benefits are selected by the project staff to ensure appropriateness.
Monetary gifts for other holidays or special occasions are directed to the fund that most closely corresponds to the intention of the gift.
SPECIAL MONEY FUNDS
Project Need Fund
This fund allows sponsors to extend much-needed additional support to their sponsored friend's project. Projects use these funds for children and aging persons most in need of extra help or for benefits the regular sponsorship may not cover such as medical emergencies, funerals and housing repairs. This fund allows your sponsored friend's project to immediately address critical needs of the children, aging and families it serves.
Scholarship Program
This program was created to help aspiring older youth and young adults pursue educational goals such as attending high school, vocational training or college. The program helps provide tuition and needed financial support. Students must maintain satisfactory grades and provide service hours in their communities. Many students complete their service hours volunteering at CFCA projects and serving as positive role models for younger children. Scholarships are awarded at the discretion of the projects to students who meet the criteria. Donations cannot be designated for a specific child.
Critical Need Fund
This fund allows sponsors to address critical needs of their sponsored friend or family that go beyond what regular monthly sponsorship can cover. Critical needs may include medical emergencies, housing repairs following a natural disaster or fire, tuition assistance for university studies, or assistance in times of acute economic crisis. If the project staff finds that the need specified by the sponsor was met through other means, or if addressing it would not be in the best interest of the sponsored member, the project may use the funds to meet critical needs of others served by the project.
