The journey of CFCA
The spirit of Christian Foundation for Children and Aging was born in the hearts of those we are called to serve and in the hearts of each of us. Our late co-founder Jerry Tolle once said, “All are contributing to the co-creation of CFCA, an experience of sharing, of getting to know and love and serve one another.”
Since CFCA was founded 25 years ago, our community has grown to include caring and committed sponsors reaching out to more than 300,000 children, youth and aging persons in 26 countries. We are deeply grateful for your support.
Our growth and operating efficiencies have made it possible for CFCA to maintain the same monthly sponsorship commitment level for the past 14 years. However, the cost of sponsorship benefits has increased significantly, and we find it is now necessary to increase the monthly commitment to $30.
As we begin 2006, we have a tremendous opportunity to continue to be transformed by the children, youth and aging persons we serve, and to deepen our commitment to the very personalized nature of our programs overseas.
On January 1, new sponsors began joining CFCA at a monthly commitment level of $30. We are now inviting current sponsors to participate at this level.
Our shared commitment
We recognize that we live in a climate of economic challenges. What is feasible for some may not be feasible for others. We are dedicated to working with each of our sponsors to facilitate this change in the easiest way possible.
We invite you to join us in our shared commitment. To those who can respond immediately, thank you. To those who need more time, we appreciate your efforts to increase your sponsorship commitment as your finances permit.
We will continue to demand of ourselves efficiency in our operations and low overhead. We believe our 2006 independent audit and subsequent ratings from oversight groups such as American Institute of Philanthropy and Charity Navigator will validate our stewardship.
The opportunity of sponsorship
CFCA projects respond to the expressed, felt needs of our sponsored friends, from the most basic necessities of food, education and medical care to more holistic development that addresses not only the body, but the mind and spirit as well. To help our sponsored friends thrive, our projects must also involve and assist families of sponsored friends within the context of their cultures and communities.
Maintaining a high level of personal outreach and encouraging authentic relationships between sponsored friends and their sponsors, in the midst of rising costs of sponsorship benefits and the growing needs of sponsored friends, requires an increase in the monthly sponsorship commitment.
Our hope
In our 25th year of service, our hope for sponsored children and youth is to continue to provide them with opportunities for education, not just through primary grades, but to see them through secondary, vocational or university studies. For our aging friends, our hope is to help them live with dignity and the support of the community. Our hope for the families of sponsored friends is that they will be able to fulfill their desire to become more self-sustaining, and actively participate in decision-making and activities for the benefit of their communities.
For our sponsors, our hope is that you continue this journey of support and encouragement with your friend through your CFCA sponsorship. It is also our hope that you enjoy the blessings that come with being part of a worldwide community of compassion.
“We give thanks to God always for all of you, remembering you in our prayers, unceasingly calling to mind your work of faith and labor of love and endurance in hope of our Lord Jesus Christ…”
Thessalonians 1:2-3
