Former scholar leads a CFCA office in Mexico

Ana, right, a former CFCA scholar, is coordinator of the CFCA office
in Xcuyun, a city in Yucatan, Mexico.
Ana Victoria, 26, is the coordinator of the local CFCA office in Xcuyun, which is a city in Yucatan, Mexico.
CFCA has been part of her life since she was a young girl.
She was sponsored at age 11 through CFCA's Merida project in Mexico. In 10th grade, Ana was also offered a CFCA scholarship.
"This was a big help because I could finish my studies," Ana said.
Her family's economic situation was precarious. Her older brother, Juan, has a disability and her mother had to bring him to a special school for therapy every day. Ana was the one who cooked dinner for them when they returned home.
As a scholarship student, Ana had the opportunity to work more closely with CFCA. She demonstrated ingenuity and capacity.
"We gave summer courses to the smallest children, which I enjoyed very much because I always wanted to be a preschool teacher," she said.
She helped establish a poultry livelihood project for the CFCA scholars. They used the sales proceeds to help offset their education expenses. She also assisted the sponsored children with their letters to their sponsors.
When the Xcuyun coordinator position became vacant, Ana applied. The coordinator position is for a CFCA office within the Merida project.
"At first, I was afraid of the responsibility," Ana said. "I did not have confidence to stand up before others."
Nine years later, Ana is still the coordinator of the Xcuyun office.
"I am very happy to work for CFCA," she said. "It has helped me with various aspects of my life. I thank all the sponsors for their trust in CFCA and for changing the lives of so many people like they did for me."
