February 27, 2010
CFCA is awaiting news on the status of sponsored members, their families and staff in Chile after an 8.8-magnitude earthquake struck just off the country’s Pacific coast early this morning.
About 5,000 children, youth and aging are served through CFCA’s Valparaiso project. Valparaiso is located about 220 miles north of the quake’s epicenter.
Major news outlets reported that electricity, water and phone services were cut in Valparaiso, Santiago, and other major cities. Infrastructure and buildings are damaged. Early reports place the death toll at 147.
Please keep the people of Chile in your thoughts and prayers.
