CFCA staff gives aid after storm hits Philippines

June 30, 2011

QUEZON CITY, Philippines — Tropical Storm Meari (Falcon) flooded the homes of about 270 sponsored members and their families, forcing them to evacuate to nearby schools and CFCA offices.

Disaster update

The storm struck the country last week before moving to the Korean peninsula. CNN reports that at least 11 people died and 40,000 were displaced during the disaster. No sponsored children or elderly were killed or seriously injured.

The CFCA office in Quezon City has distributed relief aid to the affected families. The staff members are taking steps to help ensure that they return safely to their homes.

They will also help the families rebuild and clean up after the storm.

"We are grateful that their houses were not devastated," said Mavic Ihap, Quezon project coordinator. "Thank you for your thoughtfulness and prayers during these times of difficulties."

CFCA serves more than 43,000 sponsored children, youth and elderly in the Philippines.
