Volunteer at CFCA headquarters
Live in or near Kansas City?
Volunteers Dee Seigle and Ellen Johnson process
letters at CFCA headquarters in Kansas City.
Walk into the service center at CFCA headquarters any day of the week and you can hear the sound of laughter and see volunteers hard at work. Kansas City-area sponsors volunteer their time to process letters from sponsored children, youth and aging members to their sponsors.
We have been blessed to have so many dedicated volunteers over the years and are deeply grateful for the important role they play in our outreach and in helping us keep our overhead low. In 2010, these volunteers donated 9,041 hours and handled about 1.3 million letters.
Volunteers are 13 to 96 years young. A core group of volunteers has a set schedule and comes in once or twice a week. Others come in monthly or occasionally as part of a service group. If you live in the Kansas City area and would like to volunteer on a regular basis or be called when extra help is needed, we would be thrilled to have you!

Volunteer abroad
Share your gifts and expand your cultural awareness.
The overseas volunteer program at CFCA is small in scale, but it is making a big difference. CFCA typically places zero to three volunteers per year. Volunteers are placed at locations where CFCA projects have identified a need for volunteer assistance and have local resources for supervision and support.
Overseas volunteer requirements:
One-year commitment preferred; minimum commitment six months.
Minimum age 21.
A desire to live and serve in a CFCA community.
Previous volunteer experience is helpful.
Spanish language skills required for Latin America.
Responsibilities may include teaching English, working with youth or elderly, translating letters, coaching sports, helping in the office, and providing education on topics such as nutrition, health care and hygiene.
While Catholic affiliation is not required, a volunteer must be comfortable living in Catholic religious or lay communities.
Please note: Volunteers are responsible for travel, health insurance and personal needs. The average cost for a 12-month period in Latin America would be about $3,500. These costs increase for India and the Philippines. Most volunteers recruit their own sponsors through family, friends, church communities, schools, etc. Room and board are sometimes provided by the project, often in a religious community, in parish or retreat housing, or with families.
CFCA is not placing volunteers at this time.
